Sheaths for a pair of knives

I made two leather sheaths for a customer. The knives are made by two different makers. He wanted one made up to use as a belt sheath and the other is going on the strap of his shot bag.

Accoutrements of Necessity

Here are two items that I carry in the bottom of my snap sack.

One is my ball mold, ladle, and bar lead carried in a deerskin pouch.

The other is a cleaning kit that is set up for my fowler or my rifle. It’s to use once back in camp for a little better job on cleaning.

I’m using a tinder horn, made by Ron Vail to store the items needed to clean my firearms. The tinder horn works well for   this, because of the shape, it fits well in the bottom of my pack or rolled up in a blanket roll.

Items are tow and cloth patches, wire worm, two jags, one for the fowler 11ga. and one for my rifle 62cal. also a forged tow worm and a bore scraper. Oil bottle, turn screw, rod adapter, and a wood plug for the touch hole.

I have a small cleaning kit in each shot bag also.

Shot Bags 71 & 72

Here are photos of two shot bags completed for customers. The first is 7” by 7” the second is 7” by 9” there is a small inside pocket  in both and the bags have a 1” wide gusset tapering to about 1/2” giving a little added room. The straps are both fitted with a iron buckle and a tab for a pick & brush. The flap is held down with a button. The bags are completely hand stitched, dyed a dark brown and treated with nests foot oil and bee’s wax.

January 2021

Due to covid this past weekends event “School of the Ranger” held at Fort Frederick, MD. was canceled, a few of us had attended last year and was looking forward to this years event. Hopefully it will still happen in March.
Here is a little something to hold you over until then.
Take care & Enjoy!
