The Season is Over

November 15th, opening day, it"s all over!
Our 2015 Michigan firearms season started this past Sunday and for once I was able to be out in the woods for opening day. I started the morning off by watching a big buck chase a doe around but, no shot was offered. I all so had other does and bucks (4) pay me a visit that morning. After a little lull in deer movement, I had this big boy walk in and offered me a 20yard shot, broadside.
My fowler did it's job, with a double lung shot, the deer went about 50 yards and dropped. This is my biggest buck yet. That morning's hunt was the best, with beautiful weather, lots of wildlife moving about, just a great day!
I used my 75 cal. Fowler loaded with a paper cartridge using a .715 round ball backed with 100gr. of 3f black powder.

Deer Season 2015

For this fall I have been able to get to the woods for some hunting three different times so far. In the three times out I was able to take one fox squirrel, the opportunity was there to take my limit of five but I chose not to. Other times I was trying my luck at taking a wild turkey for the fall. Again no luck there but, was able to work and watch different flocks and hopefully learn something from it.
So this Sunday, November 15th, is Michigan opening day for the gun season. This year I will be fortunate to be able to take to the woods and try my luck at a Michigan whitetail buck on opening day. This is something that I haven’t been able to do in a very long time, maybe twenty years or so. I always waited until the opening of the muzzleloading season to start in December.
Don't forget to wear your hunters orange.
So I have my kit ready to go, my fowler is clean and a new flint added. I am ready  and whether I am able to take a buck or not, I will still enjoy my time spent hunting with friends and the time spent in the woods.
To everyone heading out to try their luck for the 2015 season, remember be safe, and good luck.
