This is one of my latest project, a small pocket coin purse. As a early ranger I would receive 2-shillings a day plus food provisions and a gill of rum. So to add to my persona I wanted to carry some coins of the day, so I needed to find something to carry it in.
In looking for something I came across this, it is a simple design and would be correct for the period,
made from 3oz. veg. tanned leather, when closed it is only 2 1/2" x 3
1/2" and opens to 1 3/4" deep, just the right size to carry in my waist coat pocket.
There is ample room inside to carry my coin along with my rosary and when closed it holds everything in it's place, so there is no rattling change.
Adding a false bottom to keep them out of sight it's also large enough to carry your ID and a charge card also folded bills if need for those days of shopping at an event.
I have made two so far and the second one is being use as a flint wallet. I found that I could lay several flints depending on the size, sharp edge facing out, and when folded close the edge is protected and they are all held firmly in place. When a flint is needed the purse is opened and all flints are easily seen and retrieved. If your turn screw is small enough it can be tucked in to the folds of the purse also.
